135th Movement

Today there was a Jammerz Arena meeting...and from the looks of it, I don't think I can stay in there anymore. A couple of reasons why:

1) They want to cater more to what the audience in RP wants, and seeing the majority of people in RP liking Rock, Punk and even Metal, there isn't much hope for Jazz now, is there?

2) They want to kick out the "weakest link", the miniority, and guess who's the only saxophone player in there?

These are the reasons, there are more though, I can't remember what they are...

Anyway, I see my self going solo now, perhaps I'm not meant to be in a band...there really is no place for a saxophonist in Singapore except Wind Symphony and Symphonic bands...

5) If some of you haven't realized yet...YES I'M F***ING SINGLE AGAIN! DON'T TALK TO ME ABOUT ISSUES IN RELATION TO IT! (until I feel fine)

Fake smile vs Real smile

It's a hard thing to do when you're trying to discern a fake smile from a real one, and it's quite a skill to know which is which. It could become important to know the difference when you're out with your spouse or with your friends, and know when they are genuinely tickled by your joke or just want to make you feel good.

Fake smiles
- Lack full expression
Meaning that the smile is less likely to be symmetrical, or that there is an absence of the crinking of facial muscles
- Can remain there for an unusally long time
Real smiles last not more than an approximate five seconds, while fake smiles can last approximately 20 seconds

Real smiles
- Uses zygomatic muscles of the cheek and the eye
The muscles near the cheek and the eye constrict, causing a crease and forming something like a crow's feet on the face
- Muscles around the mouth are also affected
The muscles around the mouth curve in an upward manner

Real smiles are also automatically brought forth by the person, not thought about first. When you are happy, endorphins are released into your brain, and this causes you to smile. In truth, one uses at least 5 pairs of muscles to smile, and sometimes as much as 53.

The real (or "open" smile) is known as the Duchenne smile, because these facts were found by a guy named Guillaume Duchenne, while the fake smile is known as the "Pan American" smile.

What about people who are born with a smile on their face? Will we never be able to see if they are genuinely happy or not? We can, look around the corners of the eyes when they laugh or smile, if they crinkle, it's a real smile.

132nd Movement

I remember I read something like this on my friend's blog:

If management=perfect, everyone=world peace, life=paradise
management=sucks, everyone=stressed, life=sucks

Okay, then he goes ahead to ask what the hell management means, or what it is. He's a good friend of mine so I'll try my best to answer.

Firstly, to correct his "theory", management can never be perfect (but I reckon that's why he put an IF in that line).
Secondly, the world would still not be at peace if management was perfect! Don't you see? That is what differentiates us from simple-minded animals (like the kangaroo).

If North Korea managed themselves well, turned democratic and lead the country to prosperity, some assholes in America will eventually start to think "they're trying to get richer so that they can build more atomic bombs and then turn communist again. It's all a big fat LIE."

And life is never a paradise even if management was perfect, you'd still be working and enjoying your family/friendship life and sooner or later, due to the human spirit, the spirit will break naturally.

The only way to be in paradise is for all of us to be trees, not talking, not feeling.

But coming back to the topic, what would management be now...

Management is a way of life, a lifestyle, a kind of process you go through in order to believe you are really organized and neat.

Management is a scam, how we "manage" our lives is already all printed out onto the newspapers and blasted onto the loudspeakers a week before election day.

We are all made to believe that by "managing" our lives, we can be a better person, a better nation.

True management comes in when you find out what you are supposed to be doing, you do not read the newspapers that say "50 minutes of yoga a week is good for you" and try to squeeze in that 50 minutes to become a part of your life...

What do you really want in life is the only thing to manage, some people want to be an artist, and from there they plan how they are going to be an artist from now until death (maybe not until death...so extreme), what kind of artistic sectors they want to be in etc. Everything they manage is only the arts and sticking to the arts as much as possible (because some events in life may have a mix, like arts and business).

And then what happens when something else we love comes into play? Let's take a girlfriend for example...how do you manage a girlfriend and your love for the arts?

First thing to do is PRIORITY, which is more important? Don't say "I don't know", which one are you willing to sacrifice for the other? Your mouth says "I don't know" but your heart tells the truth. Stop the "I'm confused" shit, get your mind straight.

Next on the list is ACTION, do what you set out to do, and finish the job, don't do half-past six work and don't say "another day". Finish what you started, end early and do whatever else you like in your list, not that hard to think of.

Of course, saying here is easier than doing it, trust me, I'm an expert at saying but not doing. I'm a lazy bastard but that's another topic for another day.

Laugh out LOUD

Image of the week (rated 16 for language):

Text jokes:
1) Every year, a mental institution would have an exam for their patients, only a selected few were allowed to take that test and if passed, the patient was free to leave the institution. Three men were selected for the exam, and the examiner brought them to the 2nd storey with an empty pool at the bottom. He told them to jump into the empty pool. The first man jumped, and broke his leg, the second man followed suit, and sprained his ankle. When it came to the third man, he refused to jump, when asked why he did not jump, he replied: "Because I can't swim..."
2) Four men were in a plane, a Japanese, an American, a Chinese and a Malay. Feeling bored, the Japanese took out a Gameboy, after a while, he threw it out of the window. When asked why, he replied, "Gameboys...Japan has a lot of it!" Soon the American took out a MacBook Pro, after a while of using it, he too, threw it out of the window. When asked why, he replied, "MacBook...which part of America doesn't have it?" The Malay was impressed by what they have in their country, feeling the need to compete, he threw the Chinese out of the window. The other two screamed, "what was that for?" The Malay simply replied, "Aiya...Chinese only...Singapore got a lot!"
Text riddles:
1) What do you get when UPS and FeDex team up?
2) What can you catch but not throw?
3) What goes up but never comes down?

Smile
There was once a doctor who was depressed, he was going through a bad relationship and had a failed operation in the afternoon. Vexed, he sat down in front of his computer going through his regular emails.
Looking at one of them, he saw an email that was talking about the power of a smile. Saying:
"Smiling is contagious, once you start you can't stop the chain!"
The doctor thought to himself, "Alright, I'll try and give a smile today, though I doubt it'll help."
The doctor left work at the usual 6.30pm, and was walking out of the hospital when he saw a limping and smiled at him. The man stared back blankly.
The next day, the doctor found a note on the table, it read:
------
Dear Doctor,
I do not know how you came across me at the entrance yesterday, but I'm really glad you did.
My name is Jack and my leg has been bothering me for the past 10 years and no one has ever cured it.
My wife left me and took my kids with her, and on top of all that I have no more money to pay the hospital bills.
I told God that I would jump from this very hospital tomorrow (which was yesterday) but if I saw someone's genuine smile, I would reconsider my decision.
Thank God you were there, you gave me a smile and a genuine one at that. I can tell a false one from a real one, and I'm sure yours was 100% real.
Thank you doctor, I have a 2nd chance at life.
Jack.

Spring Morning
Where am I going?
I don't quite know
Down to the stream where the king-cups grow
Up to the hill where the pine-trees blow
Anywhere, anywhere, I don't know
Where am I going?
The clouds sail by
Little ones, baby ones, over the sky
Where am I going?
The shadows pass
Little ones, baby ones, over the grass
If you were a cloud and sailed up there
You'd sail on the water as blue as air
And you'd see me here in the fields and say
"Doesn't the sky look green today?"
Where am I going? The high rooks call:
"It's awful fun to be born at all"
Where am I going? The ring-doves coo:
"We do have beautiful things to do"
If you were a bird and lived on high
You'd lean on the wind when the wind came by
You'd say to the wind when the wind took you away:
"That's where I wanted to go today!"
Where am I going?
I don't quite know
What does it matter where people go?
Down to the wood where the blue-bells grow
Anywhere, anywhere, I don't know
-A.A Milnes
From the book
"When we were very Young"

130th Movement

Haven't been updating on my life so much, so here's a little information on what's been going on.

I've just downloaded Pan's Labyrinth, and am going to watch it soon, very soon. I've watched the introduction part, but had to stop when Ofelia entered the labyrinth, the best is yet to come.

I've also downloaded Lost in Translation, and am waiting for Amelie! to finish downloading as well. A lot of foreign movies are really worth watching, as what I've seen with these few movies.

As to what is happening with TOG, well, all I can say is that it's been quite stressful, really. Hard to explain, since you guys aren't in TOG. But it's a good thing, because it keeps me working and my blood running, otherwise I'll be fat and a couch potato in a month.

My hair is still growing, but not that long enough to trim yet, I miss my hair =[

Laugh out LOUD

Picture of the week: (Jeff Larson)

More at www.thebackpew.com

Text jokes:

1) A mother had three son-in-laws, and one day she decided to test their filial piety to her. She took the first son-in-law and walked him to a bridge. At the bridge, she deliberately fell off into the river and screamed for her son-in-law to save her, the son-in-law jumped in and saved her. The next day, he found a Toyota Wish outside his garage, with a note that said "thanks, son. Now I can count on you when I'm in trouble". She took the second son-in-law and did the same thing, and thus rewarded him with a Toyota Wish. She took the third son-in-law and attempted the same test, but the son-in-law refused to save her and thus she drowned to death. The next day, he found a Ferrari outside his house, with a note that said "thanks, son. Love, Dad".

2) Three priests were on a boat out fishing, soon one of them ran out of bait, so he prayed for a long while and after that walked on the water to retrieve the bait and back to the boat. Soon the second priest too, ran out of bait, he prayed twice as long and after that, walked on the water to retrieve some bait and back to the boat. The third priest soon as well, ran out of bait, and seeing what the two priests had done, he prayed thrice as long and hard and stepped onto the water, but fell in and was rescued by the other two priests. When they got back ashore, the first priest said to the other, "maybe for the sake of brotherhood, we should have told him where the stepping stones were."

Short Stories

Hi.
I don’t have a name, no one gave me a name, no one bothered to give me a name.
But I don’t mind, I don’t need a name.
People often regard me as a “Godlike” figure, someone who controls what happens in the story. In actual fact, I don’t really predict what happens in the story, but rather…I can’t explain it, let me say it slowly.
In some stories, I know what happens, and of course I can predict who does what and what happens next.
In other stories, I form the story myself, and I see how the characters react and I react back with many other situations.
In MOST stories, I am not there, and I am watching the characters interact with each other.
I guess you should know me by now, please remember me next time you read a book. =]

129th Movement

The post you are about to read is targeted at the Catholic society. If you are not a Catholic, you are still free to read on.

The horrible thing about us Catholics now in this modern age is that we do not acknowledge the power Satan has over us, althought the Catholic faith is indeed centered around the Holy Trinity and ultimately, God, we all should understand and know that Satan still has a part to play in this faith.

It disgusts me to see so many Christians (when I say Christians, I mean every denomination) that continue to focus on the secular world's reasoning on many unfortunate circumstances instead of acknowledging the presence of a demonic attack. Of course, not every situation in this world is driven by demonic forces but the fruit and root of evil is ultimately Satan, just as God is beginning and end.

The sad truth is, Satan is working in our lives as well, he is trying his best to cling onto you so that you will not be one with God. Why is that we do a lot of sin without thinking twice? One of my reasoning is that we are blinded by the advantages it can have over us. As to why we see those advantages, it is pure evil and thus pure evil can only mean the Devil himself.

Undoubtedly, not every sin we do may be because of bad intentions, sometimes we sin because we want to do good. For example, a woman pleads guilty in the place of her lover, so that her man will not be hung to death. This certainly is a good intention and is worthy of admiration for her bravery, but a sin is still sin, no matter what it is for. Stealing 10cents is no different from stealing $10, as both will result in sin. For the woman helping her lover, she should not have been a false witness (remember the ten commandments?) and protected her lover. Many of us have to accept the fact that a sin is a sin (which will be covered some other day) and one must be punished for it.

Now, how do we avoid the Devil? The answer: we cannot avoid him. In my view, as long as evil remains in this world, the Devil exists. The Devil cannot die, at least not yet, and the only thing we can do is to strengthen our defenses against him.

The first thing to do, is to know where he is attacking in our life. It could be an addiction to pornography or the urge to drive recklessly. It can even be as simple as not wanting to do house chores, not listening to parents or to big temptations such as forging a cheque or beating up someone badly.

Once we find the area we are under attack in, we avoid the source of it. For example, an addiction to pornography can be avoided by making use of the internet when others are around, you need not necessarily not use the internet forever, but using it when people are around will make one uncomfortable when viewing dirty sites. Sometimes you may have to totally throw the source away and not see it forever until the urge is gone. For example, the urge to beat up someone may be avoided by not seeing the subject of beating for a while, at least until you are cured of your motivation to beat him up.

If we find that prevention is almost impossible, we must be prepared to make drastic changes in our life.

Another method to prevent one from sinning is the use of time, what do we do in our free time apart from sinning? We could look for a better way to pass time, for example, I bought Fallout 3 a few weeks ago and it's helping me a lot. Another way is to meditate on the Bible more, and fill our time with prayer, thanksgiving and praise for the Lord. When we strengthen in faith, we are shielding the arrows of the Evil one. Attending weekday mass may also be some sort of help, and also allow us access to one of the most powerful sacraments ever, the Eucharist. The Body of Christ, as we know, is one of the most powerful tool in fighting the Evil one.

This is the most basic structure of fighting temptations, I do not have qualifications to certainly say that this method will work for everyone, but we should continue to find our own ways to fight off the Devil.

128th Movement

Yesterday, at a table of four people, two girls and two guys, a new production team was formed.

The group called themselves "What's the Point! Productions", made up of four specific polytechnic students.

A weird name, I feel, but of course, a fun name as well. I'm the director for WTP Productions, and we all have our individual roles for the team.

I realised on Sunday that I was wrong about almost everything, I couldn't just think of one road to try to do what I love, I have to look for other avenues to see if what I love to do is my true talent.

On Sunday, I have realised that almost everything I thought I could do was not going to come true.

We all have to remember that this world is not build on fairness, yet we can always hope that there are a few kind souls out there who are praying for souls like us.
