50th Movement

I found this on www.deviantart.com, and it is really cool, I think this little poem can reflect my life.

The Chess Piece

If I were a chess piece, I'd be a knight.
Everything works, but nothing's goes right.
It's two steps toward, then one step away,
Sitting and waiting for my turn to play.

Bishops may angle their way to the prize.
Rooks have a straight-forward look in their eyes.
Pawns donate their lives to the cause.
The Queen goes where she will, without even a pause.
The King can be Castled to keep him from harm.
The game is over if he "buys the farm."

Then, there is me, on horseback, a knight,
Trying and trying, yet nothing goes right.
I think I can get there, if given the time.
Yet no one hears me. I might as well mime.

In the chess game of life, I am the knight.
My awkward movements are surely a sight.
Those two steps toward, then one step away,
I do plan to get there, but just not today.

Plans made in great detail can still go awry.
It's the moves made at random, the "other guy."
I know where I'm headed and know where I've been.
If I can stay in the game, I know I can win.
