Smile
There was once a doctor who was depressed, he was going through a bad relationship and had a failed operation in the afternoon. Vexed, he sat down in front of his computer going through his regular emails.
Looking at one of them, he saw an email that was talking about the power of a smile. Saying:
"Smiling is contagious, once you start you can't stop the chain!"
The doctor thought to himself, "Alright, I'll try and give a smile today, though I doubt it'll help."
The doctor left work at the usual 6.30pm, and was walking out of the hospital when he saw a limping and smiled at him. The man stared back blankly.
The next day, the doctor found a note on the table, it read:
------
Dear Doctor,
I do not know how you came across me at the entrance yesterday, but I'm really glad you did.
My name is Jack and my leg has been bothering me for the past 10 years and no one has ever cured it.
My wife left me and took my kids with her, and on top of all that I have no more money to pay the hospital bills.
I told God that I would jump from this very hospital tomorrow (which was yesterday) but if I saw someone's genuine smile, I would reconsider my decision.
Thank God you were there, you gave me a smile and a genuine one at that. I can tell a false one from a real one, and I'm sure yours was 100% real.
Thank you doctor, I have a 2nd chance at life.
Jack.
